Tampa Bay Buccaneers star tight end Rob Gronkowski suffered a rib injury during last weekend's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but there was initially plenty of optimism that he was going to be fine for the reunion game against the New England Patriots in Week 4. However, the Buccaneers just listed Gronkowski as doubtful for Sunday night's game even after he returned to practice on Friday.

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians called Gronk a game-time decision.

It still seems hard to believe that Gronk is going to miss the return game to New England. Just because he's listed as doubtful doesn't mean he's not going to play. He could get better over the next few days and be ready to go.

But it's clear Gronk's status is much more in doubt than it was earlier in the week. It would be a huge bummer if the veteran tight end isn't able to suit up against his former team.

The Buccaneers' visit to Gillette Stadium is the most anticipated regular-season game of 2021. Gronk and Tom Brady had so much success calling Foxboro home, and this is set to be their first time back as visitors. They're also going back as defending champions, adding to the hype.

We know Brady is good to go for the Buccaneers, but now we'll have to wait and see on Gronk's status. The tight end already has four touchdowns on the young season. Tampa Bay is 2-1 on the year.
