The 2018 NFL season was a disappointing one for Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones. It appears he is adamant about not repeating the same struggles he endured as a rookie.

Jones has undergone a bit of a transformation this offseason. He admits to being motivated by the rocky start to his career, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk:

“Last year was a disappointment for me,” Jones said Saturday at SportsCon 2019 in Dallas. “I’m putting in the work to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Jones added that he has put on nearly 15 pounds of muscle since the end of the regular season.

“I’ve put on a lot of pounds of muscle,” Jones said. “I’ve been training with my guy, eating four or five meals a day, protein shakes right after workouts. I’m bigger.”

It is encouraging to see that Jones is using his struggles to help take his game to the next level. The Bucs made quite the investment when they took him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he was unable to make an impact after finishing the 2018 campaign with a mere 23 carries for 44 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Fortunately, Jones will have an opportunity at a fresh start with all the new changes in Tampa Bay this offseason. He will certainly face his fair share of competition for touches in the form of Andre Ellington and Peyton Barber. It will be interesting to see if the former USC standout can put himself atop the pecking order in training camp.
