Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones may have had a very rough rookie season, but he is prepared to put that behind in and move forward with what he hopes is a successful second year in the league:

“Last year, it was definitely disappointing for me for myself and from a team standpoint,” Jones said, according to Eduardo A. Encina of The Tampa Bay Times. “Definitely, for me, it’s about getting on the right track. We have a new system, a new staff, we’re trying to make our mark in here.”

Jones played in just nine games in 2018, carrying the ball 23 times for a mere 44 yards and a touchdown. A nagging hamstring injury inhibited his offseason and resurfaced later during the regular season.

But now, Jones is healthy, and he is ready to get his confidence back after losing it this past year:

“Confidence is definitely key because if you don’t believe in yourself, that you have the ability, these guys, they’re going to show you up,” Jones said. “These are the best players in the world so when you know what you’re doing, you can just react and not have to think, and I think that’s what I’m doing this year. Just reacting and playing ball. I’m not asking myself, ‘Is this zone, is this man? Do I break out, do I break in?’”

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Southern California, was originally selected by the Buccaneers in the second round (38th pick overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

There were some who saw Jones as the second-best running back in the 2018 draft class behind Saquon Barkley, but, obviously, Jones has a lot to prove to live up to those expectations.
