NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal is a big NFL fan. Speaking with TMZ Sports on Sunday, the four-time NBA champion expressed his excitement for Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback Tom Brady, who will be making his 10th Super Bowl appearance next week against the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs.
The Diesel, who is no stranger to switching teams during his playing days, said he enjoys watching Brady stick it to his old team, the New England Patriots.
“The way he came in … this is his 10th Super Bowl and [to] play with a franchise and then the franchise kinda [says], ‘Oh, you're old, bye!' and he said ‘Okay, you don't wanna take care of me, after all, I did for this city? Watch this!'
“[Then he] goes to another a city, promises them a Super Bowl and delivers??? Wooo!!!”
After playing 20 seasons and delivering six Super Bowl titles for the Patriots, Tom Brady shocked the world when he announced that he will not re-sign with the team when his contract expired in 2019. This, following longstanding rumors that the New England brass made the 4-time Super Bowl MVP feel unwanted during the negotiation process.
Brady then packed his bags and moved to Florida last year. In just his first year calling plays for the Bucs, Brady has already led the team back to the promised land. Shaq, obviously, can relate just how satisfying it is to spite an old team, considering he did the same with the Lakers when he won a championship with the Heat back in 2006.
Shaq also weighed in on the upcoming quarterback battle between Tom Brady and reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.
“This is what I like to see in championship games — the old versus the new. Is it gonna be the old guy to continue to dominate? Or will the young guy finally come in to say, ‘Hey, I know you're Tom Brady but this is my time to shine?!'”
“I used to watch these type of karate movies growing up because at some point, the student must kill the master to become the master.”
