The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently shopping veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, according to a recent report Rick Stroud of TampaBay.com. With McCoy choosing not to report to the team's voluntary offseason workouts, his future with the struggling NFC South franchise remains cloudy.

“The Bucs have been non-committal about whether McCoy will be with the team this season,” writes the aforementioned Stroud. “The six-time Pro Bowl player has a base salary of $13-million that is not guaranteed.”

However, it remains abundantly clear that McCoy's Tampa Bay teammates want the veteran defender back for next season — and potentially beyond.

“We all know what Gerald means to this locker room,” Buccaneers defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III said earlier in the week, via TampaBay.com. “We know what Gerald means to the locker room, But the community knows what he means to the community based on what he does. I don’t have to speak on him for what he does. If he comes back, if he doesn’t come back, it’s all business. It’s not much for me to speak on, He has to do what’s best for him and his family. [Buccaneers general manager] Mr. [Jason] Licht has to do what’s best for the Buccaneers. So that’s where that comes in line. I want him here. Obviously, everybody wants him here. Who wouldn’t want him here?”

The Buccaneers, who remain ways away from contending, will certainly have a major decision to make with the 2019-20 season now looming and McCoy currently in line to earn a hefty paycheck.
