The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed another quarterback. Blaine Gabbert is rejoining the team to become Tom Brady's backup, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Rapoport also points out that Gabbert's familiarity with Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians likely helped the two sides come to an agreement on a deal.

The one-year pact would allow Gabbert to appear on the field for his fifth professional franchise, should Brady need to be subbed out during the 2020 season.

Gabbert was in line to compete for the backup job in Tampa Bay in 2019 as well, but a dislocated shoulder derailed those plans. He last appeared on the field with the Titans in 2018, having appeared in eight games and making three starts.

Starting has been Gabbert's M.O. since the Jaguars made him the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for him, those starts haven't translated into wins. Of the 48 starts that he has made in his career during his time with Jacksonville, the San Francisco 49ers, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, Gabbert has won just 13 of those games.

It's quite the juxtaposition, as Gabbert is now set to backup arguably the most dominant winner that the quarterback position has seen in the last half-century.

In case there were any thoughts that Tampa Bay could still re-sign Jameis Winston as Brady's backup, that theory is effectively eliminated. Now we know just who will be joining Brady in the quarterbacks room and donning the new Buccaneers uniforms in 2020, as Gabbert enters his 10th professional season.
