The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won a Super Bowl, largely thanks to Tom Brady, and it appears that the next quarterback for the team is already on the roster, according to Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht, and might be a surprising candidate.

According to Licht, appearing on Pewter Report's podcast, Blaine Gabbert could be the heir apparent to the GOAT Tom Brady.

This might be a bit of surprise, especially considering the drop-off from Brady to Gabbert is a big one. To be fair, any quarterback's drop-off from Brady is big, especially considering the fact the seven-time Super Bowl champion doesn't seem to be going anywhere, even at the age of 43 years old.

Gabbert's career has been an interesting one, but Licht said he “loves his energy” and the fact that he knows the system is definitely a huge plus.

He was a first-round pick in 2011 and has never lived up to his potential. He spent three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars before going to the San Francisco 49ers. He appeared in 25 games for the Jaguars, and since leaving he's been a backup every step of the way.

Nonetheless, Licht says Gabbert could be the next guy in Tampa Bay, although who knows when Brady decides to call it a career. He's still playing at a high level and just had an extremely efficient run in the playoffs en route to his fifth Super Bowl MVP trophy.

Perhaps Licht is being nice, or Gabbert has really played well and learned from Brady, but it seems like a couple of years before they need a new quarterback.
