Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is presumably entering the final stage of his illustrious career. And it may be only a matter of time before he is the one watching from the sidelines while his family is on the field.

There has been plenty of debate regarding players' willingness to led their children play contact sports. Brady said during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM Radio that he sees tremendous value in allowing his children to play football or any other contact sport:

“I think there’s something about contact sports that teaches you a lot about discipline, respect, mutual respect for your opponent, that you don’t get in non-contact sports … If your body is taking a physical toll and punishment, you’ve got to respect your body because that’s your insulation, that’s your asset. You have to have even more respect for your body. Boxers, for example, MMA, wrestling, the contact sports are the ones where I think you learn the most discipline. Because you can’t perform unless you take great care of your body.”

Brady added that the last thing he would want for his sons is to be compared to him.

“I would never want for them to be ‘Tom Brady’s son’ playing football”

Brady's comments hardly come as any surprise considering he has been a pioneer when it comes to keeping his body in shape. His efforts have clearly paid huge dividends as he continues to apparently defy the laws of Father Time and he is hoping to pass on this approach to his kids.

It takes tremendous motivation for the 42-year-old Brady to maintain playing shape at this point in his career. Of course, this was not something that happened overnight and was forged through two decades of enduring the physical grind of playing in the NFL. His love and passion for the game helped serve as the driving factor behind his willingness to make so many sacrifices off the field in order to achieve what he has on the field.

Brady is now hoping that this is something his kids will be able to find for themselves, even if the risk of bodily injury is involved.
