Week 6 was a forgettable one for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who only didn’t just lose to the Arizona Cardinals, 38-33, but they also saw their starting quarterback Jameis Winston go down with a shoulder injury.

Winston exited the game in the second quarter after hurting his right shoulder. He didn’t return to the field and was instead replaced by backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bucs could still consider themselves lucky, however, as initial X-rays of Winston’s shoulder were negative, according to Rick Stroud of TampaBay.com.

Bucs QB Jameis Winston says he expects to play next week. X-rays negative but will have MRI Monday. Said shoulder too sore to continue.

While Winston said that he expects to play next week against the Buffalo Bills, a clearer picture with regards to his health status and availability should come following his scheduled MRI on Monday, per Roy Cummings of Florida Sports Insiders.

Bucs QB Jameis Winston will have an MRI on Monday to determine true severity of his injury.

Indeed, that news came earlier today:

In case Winston misses any time, Fitzpatrick will be tabbed by head coach Dirk Koetter as the team’s interim starter. Fitzpatrick threw for 290 yards with three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions on 22-of-32 completions in the eventual defeat to Arizona, which did feature a strong comeback attempt by the Bucs.
