Milwaukee Bucks point guard George Hill would like an opportunity for his team to finish their quest for an NBA title this year. But Hill also understands the current situation is more complicated due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hill took the “life is bigger than basketball” perspective. And he also said he “couldn't care less about the season” if the resumption of play had the potential to actually endanger lives,

Via Sacha Pisani of Sporting News:

“I’m a little 50-50 . . . life itself is bigger than the money aspect of the game,” Hill said on the possibility of canceling the season. “Yes, as competitors and athletes we want to play this season. But if more lives are in jeopardy, I couldn’t care less about the season. Life is way more precious than this ball that we play in. If they cancel the season, as an athlete I would be upset, but we can’t do anything about it. If we play, I’m excited to play again and get back on the court. We had something special going on and I’d love to finish it.”

Hill and the Bucks would arguably stand the most to lose from a lost season.

Not only were the Bucks the best team in basketball prior to the suspension of play, but they will also have to come to grips with reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo getting closer to free agency.

Of course, as Hill noted, the NBA is not going to resume the season without assurances from public health officials. Even if basketball does return this year, teams are likely to play behind closed doors.

In any case, the health and safety of players, coaches and the general public must be prioritized, something Hill recognizes even as the Bucks chase greatness.
