Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is the NBA’s reigning MVP, and he continues to put up superlative numbers in the early going of the 2019-20 season.

Against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night, Antetokounmpo piled up a career-high 15 assists:

Combined with those dimes were 24 points, 19 rebounds and three steals for the Greek Freak in 35 minutes of action – completely outclassing a thin Blazers team that was without Damian Lillard. Surprisingly, Antetokounmpo wasn’t his usual efficient self scoring the ball, so he opted to become a pass-first player down the end of the game, which ended up working wonders.

Antetokounmpo put on a clinic by dishing to his teammates after driving the lane and all of his teammates were the beneficiary of Antetokounmpo’s all-encompassing gravity.

After a staggering MVP campaign last season, the 24-year-old has somehow managed to improve almost every aspect of his game in his seventh season in the NBA. He is currently averaging more points per game than last season (30.5 vs. 27.7), more rebounds per game (13.8 vs. 12.5), more assists per game (6.0 vs. 5.9, though this was tallied before his 15-assist game could be taken into account) and more steals per game (1.5 vs. 1.4).

He is shooting a career-high from the field (58.9%) and has even upped his player efficiency rating from 30.9 last season to an insane 33.1 in 2019-20.

After their win on Thursday night, the Bucks are now 12-3 on the season – in no small part due to their MVP’s overall brilliance to start the campaign.
