The Milwaukee Bucks are playing some of the best basketball in franchise history. With a 35-6 record and another MVP-caliber season from Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks are poised to challenge for their first NBA title since 1971.

Even still, there are distractions, particularly as far as Giannis is concerned. Antetokounmpo will be a free agent after the 2020-21 season, inspiring plenty of conversation regarding his future.

But The Greek Freak remains focused on the current task at hand, per Eric Woodyard of ESPN:

“I really try not to think about it. Sometimes you've got to take yourself out of the media and try not to pay as much attention, because it can mess with you,” Antetokounmpo said of the outside noise. “But I think I'm doing a great job, the team is doing a great job of just focusing on what we've got to do and focusing on us and what our goal is — which is to play good basketball and play the long season.”

The “lip-reading” Woodyard mentions references an exchange between Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry at the end of Milwaukee's win over the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 8, in which Curry appeared to be suggesting the pair should team up.

For his part, Curry claimed he was speaking with Giannis about a video game.

Nevertheless, the speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo is only likely to increase as the season goes along, particularly if the Bucks fail to reach the NBA Finals. Milwaukee will offer the supermax to its franchise cornerstone, in any case.

Regardless, Giannis Antetokounmpo would rather focus on the here and now.
