Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has heard the hoopla surrounding the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season and how it will go down in history as a questionable campaign.

Halted for nearly five months due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the NBA had no option but to suspend the season and leave the league-leading Bucks awaiting a return.

For the reigning MVP, this season may well have an asterisk, but it will be for the right reason:

Per Kane Pitman of The Sporting News:

“I hear a lot of people saying it could have a star next to it,” said Antetokounmpo. “It’s going to be the toughest championship you could ever win.”

Antetokounmpo has a point. There's never been a team to surge as an NBA champion after that long of a non-offseason layoff. One could argue the title deserves more merit as teams will have to rev up in short notice to resume the season.

The Bucks and other teams will have to work through the rust and still manage to meet expectations, even if they were knocked off their stride by the suspension of the season.

While players have been able to rest abundantly during this long idle period, they have also been unable to work out and play as they usually would in months prior to the offseason. That itself is a troublesome component and one that has worried players before agreeing to return.

Should Antetokounmpo and the Bucks hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy at the end of the season, it might have an asterisk next to their name, but those who witnessed it will know just why.
