On the same day the San Antonio Spurs traded a disgruntled Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks All-NBA forward Giannis Antetokounmpo pledged his lifelong loyalty to his current team.

Earlier this month, Milwaukee Bucks All-NBA forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was revealed to be the NBA 2K19 cover athlete, marking a first for his NBA career. With star players on the move this summer, this brought into focus the recent 2K cover curse in which several cover athletes switching teams.

Antetokounmpo was having none of it on Twitter.

This alleged curse dates back to the NBA 2K14 cover when forward LeBron James was a member of the Miami Heat and left the team to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers the following offseason after opting out of the final year of his deal. Forward Kevin Durant graced the next cover and decided to bolt the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Golden State Warriors back in July 2016. Forward Paul George earned that honor the next year but was traded by the Indiana Pacers to the Oklahoma City Thunder last summer.

Last year's cover athlete, Kyrie Irving,Ā  was moved by the Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign. On top of that, DeMar DeRozan, who was featured on the NBA 2K18 cover for the Canadian version, was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in a blockbuster deal that also featured Kawhi Leonard.

Antetokounmpo has emerged as one of the rising stars in the NBA coming off his most productive campaign where he averaged a career-high 26.9 points with 10.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks per contest. The 23-year-old is currently in the second year of his four-year, $100 million deal that runs through the 2020-21 season with no player or team options.
