Jabari Parker will join what is quickly becoming an interesting restricted free agency class next summer. That’s after Parker and the Milwaukee Bucks could not come to an agreement on a contract extension, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Jabari Parker, 22, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft behind Andrew Wiggins. He had a breakout season last year, as he averaged 20.1 points with 6.2 rebounds and shot 36 percent on 3-pointers. However, he played just 51 games after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee. He had previously torn that same ACL during his rookie season.
Considering the significant risk involved in signing someone with multiple ACL tears on the same knee to a long-term deal, it was understandable that the two sides couldn’t agree on a deal. While Parker at his best is a very good player, he doesn’t offer nearly the same upside as Joel Embiid, who was still able to land a big contract extension despite his own health concerns.
The Bucks can still retain Jabari Parker next summer via restricted free agency, where they can match any offer he receives. And given the fact that he won’t play too many games next season and could still be limited physically, it remains to be seen whether Parker will be able to sufficiently build his stock back up to command the big-money contract which he's likely seeking.
