Veteran sharpshooter Jason Terry has been winding down his career with the Milwaukee Bucks for the better part of his last two seasons, playing spot minutes in a rotation that is settling more by the day.

But the Arizona product doesn't see his days on the NBA hardwood anywhere near over, hopeful to reach his 20th season in the league like only a few stars have been able to.

“For sure, 100 percent, my goal is to play 20 seasons,” Terry said, according to Genaro C. Armas of The Associated Press. “The organization understands that and I think the league is on notice.”

There is a short list of players who have been able to reach their 20th season. Among them, is his former teammate Dirk Nowitzki who is even aiming at his 21st in a Dallas Mavericks uniform.

Terry might not have the role as a primary scoring option as he once had with the Atlanta Hawks, or as a go-to spot-up shooter with the Mavs, but it doesn't make his mentoring role any less important in a league with plenty of youth.

“It’s always tough not being out there on the floor and just using your voice. Guys respond to it a little bit,” Terry said of his adjustment. “When you’re out there in the fire with them, they respond a lot more.”

The 6-foot-2 marksman is only playing 11.6 minutes per game — a minute allocation that has risen with Malcolm Brogdon's injury and the need to fill in. Yet Terry has seen coaches and players come-and-go, but none like his former Mavs teammates Jason Kidd, who was fired early in the season.

“The dividing line is there… understanding that coach Kidd didn’t get me the contract — the Milwaukee Bucks did,” Terry said, thinking back on the sudden change of direction with the organization. “I have a job to do and my job is to help them go forward in the future… continue to be a positive influence in the locker room and on the court. That’s what they signed me up to do and I’m going to see that all the way through.”

The vet and his Milwaukee Bucks will next welcome in Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans for a Sunday matinee in the great state of Wisconsin.
