Kareem Abdul-Jabbar considers the Milwaukee Bucks the favorites to win the 2019 NBA title.

Abdul-Jabbar made his sentiments known to WISN 12 NEWS sports director Dan Needles on April 14.

I would absolutely have them…the frontrunners…to win because they were consistent all season.

How many times did they lose more than one game in a row? That shows me this is a team with focus and, uh, some determination. And they want to win.

They've embraced the new way the game is played now with stretching the court. They've got people that can do that. And they have Giannis (Antetokounmpo). He's awesome – a point forward concept. He's making it work.

I wouldn't expect anything different to happen in the playoffs. If they continue to play like that, with that type of focus and that type of hunger, they're gonna have another championship banner hanging in the arena here.

Cause the one we put up here is really lonely at this point (laughs).

In the latter part of the interview, Abdul-Jabbar referred to the only NBA championship the Bucks won in 1971 (they swept the then-Baltimore Bullets in four games).

Abdul-Jabbar, known as Lew Alcindor back then, earned NBA Finals MVP honors. He averaged 27.0 points, 18.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists against the Bullets. He played with the likes of Oscar Robertson and Bob Dandridge that season.

It's been 38 years since Milwaukee last tasted NBA championship glory. Nobody expected this season's Bucks to enjoy this much success.

Behind the exploits of 2019 NBA MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo (27.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in 2018-19), Milwaukee is going all-out for championship banner No. 2.

The Bucks got off to a rousing start in the 2019 NBA playoffs. They dismantled the eighth-seeded Detroit Pistons, 121-86, on April 14. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven first round series, 1-0.

Antetokounmpo recorded 24 points and 17 rebounds in just 24 minutes of action.
