The next three weeks are of major import for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon, and Brook Lopez headline a cast of incumbent free agents that made up a majority of the their rotation, and the Bucks will only have enough spending capital to retain three or four of them – and maybe less. The specter of Giannis Antetokounmpo's extension looms. If he's not happy with the difficult decisions the front office will be forced to make in free agency, not only will Milwaukee render the incredible progress it made this season moot, but the franchise itself could be changed forever.

Unfortunately for Bucks ownership, they're in a similar state of tricky transition simultaneously. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Bucks' chief operating role of governor is poised to switch hands from Wes Edens to Marc Lasry pending a vote from the board of governors – and it's unclear whether or not the changeover will be seamless.

Pending a vote of the board of governors next month, Marc Lasry will take over the role of Bucks governor — i.e., ultimate decision-maker — from Wes Edens, sources say. (Milwaukee's ownership agreement calls for Edens and Lasry to trade the role every five years.) No one is quite sure what impact the change might have — if any.

Milwaukee's principal owners are smart. The last thing they would want to do is jeopardize the team's future with a contentious back-and-forth during the transition process, no matter how subtle or behind-the-scenes it might be.

But given the high-stakes volatility of free agency, it sure would be optimal if things went smoothly between Lasry and Edens.
