Robin Lopez signed with the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this offseason, teaming up with his brother, Brook, in what will likely be one of the more formidable frontcourt rotations in the NBA. At seven feet, Robin is obviously a solid rim protector, but it sounds like the Bucks are also interested in his 3-point shooting.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst recently joined Eric Nehm of The Athletic for a wide-ranging interview. Amid their discussion, Horst noted that Lopez might play a stretch sort of role at times in the coming season:

Via Eric Nehm of The Athletic:

The Athletic: You already had several big men in your rotation. What do you feel Robin Lopez adds?

Horst: A true 5 (center). We felt like Ersan (Ilyasova) is versatile and a really good player and has great moments for us. D.J. (Wilson) is growing again and is versatile. Giannis can slide down and play 5. Obviously, more of a 4, 3, 2, 1 than he is a 5. I think, for us, to have a true 5 – none of those guys are true 5s – and to have a true 5 on our roster the way that we play defensively to go from Brook to Robin on a consistent basis night in and night out defensively, we think is going to be a monster. We were the best defense in the league last year. We think we can be even better this year having him with the impact he can have protecting the rim and helping our rebounding.

The staff thinks Robin can shoot. Robin thinks he can shoot. So, we’re going to find out. … He’s already really good around the rim offensively, great touch, great feet, but I think he’s also going to kind of stretch it out and shoot the ball a little bit this year. So, it should be fun.

As Horst pointed out in his response, the Bucks were already a great defensive team. Adding Robin to the mix gives the team even more depth at the center position.

The Bucks finished the 2018-19 campaign with an impressive 60-22 overall record, which earned the team a No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately, though, Milwaukee was defeated by the Toronto Raptors in the conference finals, 4-2.
