The Milwaukee Bucks were poised to add a promising piece in Bogdan Bogdanovic during the offseason. However, the expected sign-and-trade deal with the Sacramento Kings to acquire the Serbian national abruptly fell apart, and the Bucks were then stripped of a 2022 second-round pick due to a violation of league rules.

After all the events transpired, Bucks general manager Jon Horst sounded off on an insight that he gained following the situation:

“We were fully cooperative with the NBA, very open and transparent. And a decision was made and we’re moving forward from that. We’re excited about the season. I think that at different points in your life or different points in your career, things happen and you’re only as good or as bad as how you respond. And we chose to be very cooperative, forthcoming, transparent and tried to work with the league to come up with the best result. The takeaway is that, be honest and helpful and deal with the result and move on and be better. … It’s not a lesson, but it’s a takeaway,” Horst said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

After the Bucks deal fell apart, Bogdanovic eventually chose to sign a four-year, $72 million offer sheet with the Atlanta Hawks, which the Kings didn't match. The Hawks are now benefiting from the services of the 28-year-old with his good showing in the early stages of the season.

Bogdanovic tallied 15 points and seven rebounds in their season opener against the Chicago Bulls, a 124-104 blowout victory. This was followed by seven points and nine rebounds in their 122-112 win against the Memphis Grizzlies. He showed out once again in their third game of the season against the Detroit Pistons by producing 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists for a 128-120 triumph and a 3-0 record.

On the other hand, the Bucks are off to a rocky start to the season after narrowly losing to the Boston Celtics in their opening game thanks to a Jayson Tatum 3-pointer and a Giannis Antetokounmpo missed free throw. The Bucks managed to bounce back against the Golden State Warriors with a 138-99 victory on Christmas Day, but they were recently blown out by the New York Knicks in a 130-110 decision to account for a 1-2 tally.

The Hawks are currently reaping the benefits of the Bucks' botched situation, and Atlanta is hoping to make a run for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Milwaukee should be back to its winning ways soon enough, though losing out on Bogdanovic while also losing a second-round pick was a bummer.
