Though he's currently dealing with a left ankle injury that will keep him sidelined for the remainder of this season, Milwaukee Bucks big man Pau Gasol says he would like to return to FC Barcelona at some point. However, the Spanish-born star also believes that window of opportunity is closing.

Gasol, now 38 years of age, recently sat down with Movistar Plus to discuss this issue:

“This has been a topic of conversation since I left Barca in 2001,” Gasol said via EuroHoops. “I’ve always said it would be nice, that I would be excited. However, as time goes by difficulty rises. Every time I move on it gets more complicated, I want and can continue playing in the NBA. I never say never, but the door is closing”

Gasol has played for several teams throughout his career in the NBA, including the Bucks, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs. With the Lakers, he won back-to-back championships (2009 and 2010).

Gasol has been close to FC Barcelona throughout his career. In fact, he signed with the team at the young age of 16 and recently reached an agreement with the club to become its ambassador, strategic adviser and partner in the United States.

“It is an honor for me to represent Barça off the court and a challenge that I face with great enthusiasm,” Gasol said in an official statement last month. “After years playing in the best basketball league in the world, I hope to be able to provide the knowledge I have acquired to help the Club consolidate the Barça brand in the USA.”

Whether or not Pau Gasol will re-join Barca on the floor remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like he still has interest.
