The NBA announced on Tuesday that it would allow coach’s challenges in 2019-20 that include “challenge flags” for calls by referees that coaches deem to be incorrect.

This is definitely a terrific step for the NBA. While missed calls are certainly “part of the game,” a game’s outcome should not logically be decided by an incorrect call. Hence, if a coach wants to challenge a call, they should have that right.

While this move was met with approval for the most part, one notable dissident came out on Twitter in light protest of this move: Milwaukee Bucks big man Robin Lopez.

Lopez, who is one of the most delightful follows on Twitter due to his wry sense of humor, believes that “verbally harassing officials” works just as well as a challenge flag.

Certainly, Lopez can get a bit fiery on the court if calls don’t go his way, and he has also been known to beat up an opposing team’s mascot. On this front, though, it seems the inevitable march towards change that the NBA stands for these days will take precedence over RoLo’s musings.

Lopez was signed by the Bucks this offseason on a two-year/$9.7 million deal. With Robin in the fold along with his twin brother Brook, the Bucks now have both LoBros on the roster – which should certainly make things entertaining for Bucks fans (and dangerous to any and all opposing mascots).

RoLo should provide the Bucks with sturdy backup center minutes, and he might even stretch his range out to three-point territory much like his brother has over the past few seasons to adapt to Coach Mike Budenholzer’s system.
