The Milwaukee Bucks are set for a very interesting summer that will have a tremendous impact for the franchise for the foreseeable future. Bucks superstar and reigning back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has one more year remaining on his deal, and the Bucks will offer him a record-breaking supermax deal in the coming weeks.

It's unknown if The Greek Freak will sign the extension, and some believe Milwaukee should look for a trade if he doesn't sign a new deal. If there's no extension and no trade, the Bucks hold the risk of losing their superstar in free agency in 2021.

As it turns out, however, this is a risk Milwaukee is willing to take. This report comes via Tim Bontemps of ESPN:

Multiple sources have emphatically said Milwaukee will not look to trade Antetokounmpo if he passes on the extension. Instead, the Bucks will try to improve their roster and use the next year to show Antetokounmpo why he should stay.

This strategy has been hinted at before, and it actually makes a lot of sense. They are clearly throwing all their eggs in the Giannis basket and are willing to risk it all just to convince him to stay. In this respect, Bontemps continues that the Bucks will be very active in the trade market in an attempt to improve their squad for the upcoming campaign:

Waiting would give Antetokounmpo maximum leverage over Milwaukee over the next 12 months. If the Bucks are willing to add to their payroll to improve the team — something ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has reported they are — Milwaukee could chase a significant upgrade in trades (despite being short on prime assets).

To be fair, Giannis himself has indicated in the past that he intends to remain in Milwaukee. He also has said he won't request a trade this summer, no matter what. Still, anything can happen in the NBA.
