RUMOR: Raptors are front-runners to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo if he leaves Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

One NBA executive believes the Toronto Raptors are the front-runners to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo if he leaves the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Sean Deveney of Heavy.

If Antetokounmpo doesn’t sign the supermax extension with the Bucks after this season ends, he can become an unrestricted free agent in 2021:

“I don’t think he leaves the Bucks,” one league executive said. “But if he does, Toronto has to be the front-runner. Staying in Milwaukee, that’s No. 1. But if he can stand the cold, Toronto is the perfect situation for him, the next best thing.”

By all accounts, Antetokounmpo loves playing for the Bucks and living in Milwaukee. He has said in the past he doesn’t like big-market cities such as New York or Los Angeles.

The Bucks have a great shot of winning the East this season and ultimately winning the championship. For that to happen, the Bucks will need Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe to play at a high level once the playoffs start and be effective second and third options on offense, respectively, behind Antetokounmpo.

Just like last season, the Bucks have the best record in the NBA. Antetokounmpo could very well win his second straight MVP award, too. He’s averaging 30.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists while shooting 54.9 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 61.4 percent from the free-throw line.
