It appears Dirk Koetter calling plays is a short-lived experiment with the play calling duties handed back to offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Koetter said on his weekly radio show via Greg Auman of The Athletic that he would be giving back the play-calling duties for this weekends game against the New York Giants.

Koetter only held the play calling duties for one week and there was some good and bad that went along with it. The team did put up 501 yards and the offense actually looked pretty good, but when it mattered most and the team was in the position to score they couldn't get the job done. The team finished scoring only one time, and that led to a 16-3 loss.

After the game, Koetter was asked about what went into his decision to take back play callings and he didn't give much of an answer, just saying he had his own reasons.

It appears that Koetter might be trying to do anything to save his job. Since Koetter took over, the team has gone 17-24 and they really haven't made any big improvements to show that he should keep his job. The team did keep him after a 5-11 season last year though, so maybe the team will preach patience after this season.

The Buccaneers play the Giants this weekend and the team is going to have to show at least some improvement in the last weeks of the season to help Koetter's case to keep his job. If they struggle down the stretch, it's hard to imagine the Bucs not making a change.
