The NFL announced their decision to suspend Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston for the first three games of the 2018 season due to his involvement in an alleged groping of a female Uber driver back in March 2016. This has brought forth questions concerning his long-term future with the Bucs.
In their statement about the suspension, the league also noted that Winston could be banned from the NFL entirely if there are any future violations of the personal conduct policy, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
“In addition, a future violation of the Personal Conduct Policy will result in more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL,” the league’s statement said.
This is a serious matter that has placed the Buccaneers in a tough spot, with Winston making another questionable off the field decision that stems back to his collegiate days. It has become a repetitive issue for the 24-year-old as he continues to put himself in spots that have made it clear that he can't be fully trusted.
More importantly, it puts a brighter spotlight on Winston to keep his life in order away from the game moving forward in order to avoid his NFL career being abruptly ended. Tampa Bay has invested much into him being their franchise quarterback in his first four years, building their entire team around him. The fact that the Bucs haven't had any consistent success with Winston under center only compounds this situation to put his future with the organization in question.
