Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston made his first public comments on Thursday since the NFL handed down their three-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Winston said it was a learning experience for him and multiple times apologized for his actions.

Winston was accused in 2016 of sexually assaulting an Uber driver. Winston initially denied the claims, but the NFL concluded that he did touch that woman in an inappropriate matter. The former Florida State Seminoles star said he needs to start by regaining the trust of the committee.

“I know I have hard work to do to regain the trust of this community,” he said, via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.

Winston was asked to go over the specifics of what happened that night, and he avoided the question:

I’m just focused on moving forward. That’s all I can do is grow and learn from this situation. It’s a learning experience. I’ve worked hard in this community since I’ve got here and I’m going to continue to work hard on and off the field.”

Winston has said before he doesn't drink alcohol anymore because of this incident and he also apologized to all of his teammates for the distraction that he has become.

This isn't the first slip up that Winston has had in his career, but hopefully, this is the last. The Bucs aren't going to give him unlimited chances so at some point he needs to figure this out and become a better man. Maybe this is just the wake-up call that he needed.
