The Tampa Bay Buccaneers doubled down on head coach Dirk Koetter despite an underwhelming 2017 NFL season. Now some players are hoping the Bucs will do the same with them.

Among the notable names is backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Needless to say, the veteran Fitzpatrick is not shy about his desire to remain in Tampa Bay as he enters free agency, via JoeBucsFan.com

“At this point in my career, I’m not going to be given or gifted a chance to start anywhere probably,” Fitzpatrick said. “You know, there’s a lot of things that weigh into it now for me now that maybe didn’t years ago, just in terms of family and different situations. I enjoyed the year I’ve had here and even just the Tampa area in general. But this team, I think Jameis did a good job this year and you can see the improvement in his game. I’d enjoy being back. I really enjoyed my role this year, but you never know. We’ll see what happens.”

There are plenty of reasons for Fitzpatrick's candor. The Bucs were undoubtedly one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season. However, it could have been much worse had it not been for the stability Fitzpatrick brought when quarterback Jameis Winston went down with a shoulder injury.

The veteran appeared in six games this year and threw for 1,103 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. While he is a far cry from the free agent commodity he was years ago, there still could be some potential interest from the many quarterback-hungry teams throughout the NFL.
