Jameis Winston is officially back. That comes after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut wide receiver Freddie Martino on Thursday to create an open slot for Winston, who is set to return to active duty after serving a three-game suspension.

Winston returned to the Buccaneers on Tuesday following a three game NFL suspension but the team was allowed a three-day exemption before he counted against the 53-man roster. The Bucs had to create a spot for him on that roster before the start of practice on Friday.

Winston got a temporary ban from the league’s office for his alleged groping of a female Uber driver in Arizona two years ago.

While Jameis Winston is now eligible to suit up and play for Tampa Bay again, he has one obstacle to hurdle before he completely gets his usual job back. That would be his teammate and fellow quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who’s been having an incredible season so far. Fitzpatrick was supposed to be nothing more than a placeholder for Winston, but he’s thrown at least 400 yards in each of the Bucs’ last three games while leading the team into a 2-1 record. With Fitzpatrick on a roll, the Bucs have a hard decision to make on whether to continue starting Fitzpatrick or handing back the job to the former Florida State Seminole.

Last year, Winston passed for 3,503 yards and 19 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
