The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be busy putting the final touches on their draft preparations, but they’ve found enough free time to finalize another significant roster move.

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs have agreed to a one-year contract with running back Charles Sims.

Sims, 27, has spent his entire four-year career with the Bucs, who drafted him in the third round in the 2014 draft out of West Virginia. Sims had a breakout year in 2015 when he had a career-best 1,090 yards from scrimmage. He had 51 catches for 561 receiving yards and also added four touchdowns.

However, Sims has not had nearly the same type of impact over the last couple of years. He’s coming off a 2017 season which saw him carry just 21 times for 95 yards in 16 games, which is easily a career-low. Although, he did still get 35 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown.

The Bucs have been widely linked with drafting a running back at some point during the draft. Even with Sims re-signing, that doesn’t figure to change. They have the No. 7 overall pick as well as No. 38. They have an opening for their lead back role after they released veteran Doug Martin earlier this offseason.

Sims joins Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers as the running backs currently on the Tampa Bay roster. Barber. Barber got the opportunity to play later in the season, and he made the most of it. He finished with a team-high 423 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also added 16 catches for 114 yards.
