The altercation between Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic during their practice session just before the season started became much talked about, as it caused the Spanish international forward to miss all of their games so far due to a facial fracture. Portis then received an eight game suspension from the team, and the two have reportedly not been having the best of relationships since.
However, the 22-year-old Arkansas product made it known recently that he does not mind sharing their locker room with Mirotic. He also added, via K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, that he understands that they both want to help the Bulls become successful.
“Why couldn’t I?” Portis said. “We’re teammates. We’re both trying to help this team win as much as possible. Some teammates don’t jell off the court, but on the court they have to make ends meet for the team needs. If that’s what we have to do, that’s what we have to do.”

Their relationship as teammates may not be the same anymore, but Portis’ comments go to show that he is ready to move on from the incident, and just focus on basketball. Sharing the locker room could be awkward for them as well, but with his statement, it also shows how professional he is, and won’t let it serve as a distraction to his game.
It remains to be seen how the two will co-exist with each other around, but one thing that’s certain at this point is the Bulls don’t want a similar incident to happen. It’s also worth monitoring if both of them will still be with the team as the season progresses, or if someone will be traded to ease off the tension inside locker room.
