Chicago Bulls scoring guard Zach LaVine might pay dividends this upcoming season with a breakout season. Part of the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was packaged along with fellow lottery picks Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen to the Bulls.

Although his initial showing coming off an ACL rehabilitation with the Bulls last season left a lot to be desired, there is no denying the talent the former 13th overall pick possesses.

Recently signing a four-year, $78 million contract, it just goes to show how much the organization believes in the capabilities of the two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion. With his recent preseason showing, it seems the Bulls may have done something right in locking in the high-flying scoring guard.

According to Cody Westerlund of 670 The Score, Bulls teammate Bobby Portis is assuming a big year for  LaVine.

“He’s a beast… He’s out there just playing, not thinking about anything, just going out there and playing his game, putting the ball in the hole, doing what he does. He’s in for a big year.”

If Lavine's 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 24 minutes are a sample size of things to come, we might see him live up to his franchise cornerstone billing.

Together with young pieces in Markkanen, free-agent acquisition Jabari Parker, and rookie Wendell Carter Jr, there is a lot of potential to work with moving forward, even despite Markkanen's elbow injury. Away from the shadow of the GOAT and the unfortunate plight of Derrick Rose, the Bulls can look forward to a bright future once again.
