The Chicago Bulls got some good news on Wednesday when the NBA announced the forfeiture of only a second-round pick upon the completion of the Lonzo Ball tampering investigation. Unfortunately, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan then announced some bad news in the form of a positive COVID-19 test for Coby White, per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

It has been a rough season so far for the third-year guard. White missed the beginning of the 2021-22 campaign as he continued to recover from offseason shoulder surgery. He made his season debut against the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 15 and hasn't played well outside of a few games.

In nine games, White is averaging 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting just 34.9% from the field and 22.6% from the 3-point range. The Bulls are hoping the 21-year-old will be an effective microwave scorer off the bench for them at some point, but this positive COVID test will only set back his ability to find a rhythm.

With White set to miss some time, Chicago will surely turn to more of rookie Ayo Dosunmu off the bench. Dosunmu didn't totally lose his rotation spot with White back in the lineup, but he wasn't playing as much as before. The Illinois product has shown some promise as a spark plug off the bench and is shooting a surprising 42.1% from 3-point range, albeit on low volume.

The Bulls are 14-8 on the season and sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference.
