The Chicago Bulls have already waived center Omer Asik, but the team is leaning toward using the stretch provision on him, according to Malika Andrews of ESPN.

Per salary cap guru Albert Nahmad, the Bulls can stretch out the $3 million of Asik's contract for this season over the next three years.

Omer Asik has battled Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. In September, Asik was ruled out indefinitely with inflammatory arthritis that flared up over the summer. Hopefully this isn't the end of his basketball career.

Asik began his NBA career with the Bulls in 2010. He played two seasons in Chicago before signing a free agent deal with the Houston Rockets in the summer of 2012. The 7-footer appeared in 130 games with Houston. The franchise then traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2014.

After playing in 189 games with the Pelicans, Asik was traded to the Bulls at the 2018 February trade deadline. The 32-year-old has career averages of 5.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 471 games while shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 55.1 percent from the free-throw line.

So far, the Bulls are 0-2. They've fallen short to the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons. Moving Omer Asik will give them the freedom to bring on another player that can contribute to the team.
