In light of their recent struggles, the Chicago Bulls have been busy revamping the roster this offseason.  The Bulls are bringing in former Miami Heat player, Derrick Walton Jr to the team. Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel reported the acquisition.

With the Heat withdrawing their qualifying offer on the young guard, Walton became an unrestricted free agent. He will compete for a spot in the young Bulls roster in need for more shooters on the wing. However, Winderman points out that Walton still has his work cut out for him:

“Walton faces considerable odds with the Bulls, who have point guards Kris Dunn, Cameron Payne and Ryan Arcidiacono under contract. Walton could find himself competing for a two-way contract with Arcidiacono and Antonius Cleveland, with Rawle Alkins already signed to one of the Bulls' two-way deals.”

The Bulls have been making bold moves this summer when they matched the Sacramento Kings' offer of a four-year, $78 million deal to then restricted free agent Zach Lavine. Then the team made waves again when they acquired the services of young hometown star, Jabari Parker, with a two-year, $40 million deal.

By signing Lavine and Parker to multi-year contracts, the Bulls will be gambling on the two oft-injured young stars. Lavine tore his ACL before he was traded to the Bulls at the start of the 2017-18 season. Lavine has yet to come back to true form as he is still hounded by knee injuries last season. Parker, on the other hand, tore his ACL twice already in his career.

If signed for the whole season, Derrick Walton will bring his outstanding outside shooting and playmaking to the young Bulls team.
