Chicago Bulls head coach Jim Boylen loves what he has seen so far from rookie point guard Coby White in training camp.

Boylen has been impressed with White's “maturity level on the floor and how quickly he can kind of pick up things.”

“He’s been really good [the first week],” Boylen said, via Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “What I’ve been impressed with is his maturity level on the floor and how quickly he can kind of pick up things and grow.

“He’s not scared, which I love. He’s more physical than I thought this early. He’s a big body. He can play on the ball and off the ball. He shot the ball very well in camp. He puts a shoulder on you, you feel it. His physicality is what we hoped it would be; I didn’t know if it would come this fast. We’re thankful for him.”

Coby White averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season in college while shooting 42.3 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

During Summer League, White put up 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Bulls while shooting 33.7 percent overall. White, however, shot just 10 percent from beyond the arc. Perimeter shooting is an area of White’s game he’s going to have to work on in the NBA since he won’t be able to always rely on his speed to score.

White, who was drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, is going to challenge Kris Dunn and Tomas Satoransky for the Bulls’ starting point guard spot, although Dunn is widely expected to be the opening day starter.
