Chicago Bulls head coach John Paxson fully understands where his team is at right now. They are not close to contending for a championship, and he knows that elite players are necessary to get that job done. However, the main focus of the franchise right now is to build a roster that can compete against the rest of the league.

The Bulls have an interesting collection of young players highlighted by Zach LaVine and this year's seventh overall pick, Coby White. They also have guys like Lauri Markkanen, Kris Dunn, and Otto Porter. These five have the potential to be a great team if they all live up to the expectations. Unfortunately, none of them have reached All-Star status up to this point.

At the moment, almost half of the teams in the league were able to build rosters that are good enough to be considered as legitimate championship contenders. While the other half are building through the draft and collecting young talent with the hopes of being relevant someday. The Bulls fall on the latter, but at this point, they don't seem to be going the right direction.

Still, Paxson remains confident that the team will figure things out in the future. Bulls fans may not agree, but the veteran coach trusts the team's young core. If Chicago makes vast improvements next season, then that's already a good start. This may be a slow, grueling process, but at this point, the team doesn't have a choice but to go through it.
