Chicago Bulls starting point guard Kris Dunn and power forward Bobby Portis won't play Saturday night against the Boston Celtics at the United Center, but Bulls head coach Jim Boylen says both players will be back “soon.”

Kris Dunn has only played in one game this year due to a knee injury, while Bobby Portis has been out since October with a knee injury as well. Dunn missed the first two games of the season due to the birth of his first child.

The Bulls acquired Kris Dunn, shooting guard Zach LaVine and the draft rights to power forward Lauri Markkanen from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Jimmy Butler trade on draft night in 2017. Dunn is practicing, but there is no target date set on his return.

In his first season with the franchise last year, Kris Dunn averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc. Dunn was at the Bulls’ practice facility all summer working on his game.

Bobby Portis was playing really well before suffering the knee ailment. The 23-year-old was averaging 10.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game and shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from the 3-point line and 55.6 percent from the charity stripe.

The Bulls enter Saturday with a record of 6-20, 13th place in the Eastern Conference. Once Kris Dunn and Bobby Portis return, the Bulls' defense will improve drastically, as both players are cerebral defenders.
