Chicago Bulls rookie sensation Lauri Markkanen is proving to be one of the best young sharpshooters in the league today, and he’s got a career milestone as evidence for it.

During Monday’s 119-111 win against the Miami Heat at home, Markkanen became the fastest player in league history to knock down 100 long distance shots, needing just 41 games into his career in the NBA to accomplish the feat.

Markkanen has been money from downtown for the Bulls so far this season. The former Arizona Wildcat is making 2.5 three-pointers per game on 37.4 three-point shooting percentage. Markkanen has been even better of late – much better – as he has shot 50 percent or better from beyond the arc in seven of his last eight games.

Prior to Markkanen’s big night against Miami, Golden State Warriors spitfire point guard Stephen Curry held the record for fastest to 100 treys, doing it in his first 58 games in the NBA.

The three-point shot has been an essential weapon for the Bulls this season, They are 10th in the league with 11.0 made three-pointers per game on 36.4 shooting percentage clip.

Lauri Markkanen’s style of play also benefits from this era of basketball where big men are encouraged to shoot from long range to give teams better spacing on offense. On the season, the 20-year-old Finnish is averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

After defeating Miami, the Bulls will face the Golden State Warriors at home this Wednesday. Hopefully for them, Markkanen will still have his hands smoking for that contest.
