After the firing of longtime general manager Gar Forman earlier this month, the Chicago Bulls are now on the hunt for someone new to fill his shoes. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, one of the lead candidates for the open position is Dallas Mavericks Vice President Michael Finley.

Finley, a 15-year veteran and two-time All-Star during his playing days, has spent the last seven years as a member of the Mavericks front office and is entering his second as the VP of Basketball Operations.

Finley is a native of the Chicago area, having grown up in Maywood, Illinois and played his high school ball at local Proviso East High School.

The Bulls interviewing Finley is part of a large overhaul started by new Vice President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas who took over for John Paxon earlier in the month. Finley joins a list of three other candidates that includes Los Angeles Clippers executive Matt Hughes, Matt Lloyd of the Orlando Magic and Marc Eversley of the Philadelphia 76ers.

While Forman was fired as the Bulls general manager, Paxson has been named senior adviser of basketball operations, but he will have no power over player personnel moves.

Paxson and Forman have drawn the ire of Bulls fans in recent years for questionable decisions including trades, contracts and other roster moves. As a team, Chicago hasn't made the playoffs since the 2016-17 season and haven't won more than 42 games in a season since Tom Thibodeau's last season in 2014-15.
