In a recently published article on NBA.com, writer Steve Aschburner presented some of the best takeaways coming from Sunday's episodes of the Chicago Bulls documentary, “The Last Dance.”

One of the more interesting topics he discussed was not actually featured in the episodes, and was perhaps one of the many outtakes of this 10-hour long docuseries. This centered around an infamous prank call in Minnesota back in 1997.

The story goes that an unknown culprit left a crank call message to the Target Center as the Minnesota Timberwolves hosted Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls on one December evening. According to reports, the deviant posed as Jordan's own brother, and claimed that their mother, Deloris, had been rushed to the hospital:

The caller, saying he was Jordan’s brother Larry, left the message in the first half. Jordan was informed at halftime and missed the first 3:14 of the third quarter before he was able to verify that his mother was fine and his brother had not called.

It must have been quite a relief for Jordan to learn that there was no truth to the claim. However, the damage had been done.

The incident rattled Jordan, which caused him to play poorly in the second half. The Wolves took advantage, and eventually escaped with an unlikely 99-95 victory.

This was a huge win for a struggling Minnesota side at that time, but we're pretty sure that they themselves were not happy about the circumstances by which they inched out the win over the mighty Bulls.
