The Chicago Bulls had one of the busiest offseasons among NBA teams. They added firepower, leadership, and defensive teeth, making them a legitimate dark horse in the Eastern Conference.

As a validation of their moves, the great Michael Jordan, in speaking with Craig Melvin of the TODAY show, even commented on how the Bulls stack up against the beasts of the east.

“Well, it’s hard to knock out Milwaukee. I’m a firm believer that if you’re a champion, someone is going to have to knock you off the pedal. You got Brooklyn in the East. Miami has change. You know, my old team Chicago made some big big changes, so they may compete in the East, as well.”

The Bulls barely made it to the Play-In Tournament last season, finishing two games behind Jordan's Charlotte Hornets. Things will be a lot different in 2021-22, though, with All-Stars Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and DeMar DeRozan leading the way, backed by Lonzo Ball and 2020 NBA champion Alex Caruso.

The sample size is extremely small, but the Bulls did start the preseason with an average winning margin of 36 points across two games. Yes, it's only the preseason. However, one has to commend the chemistry and confidence exuded by the Bulls this early.

The Bucks still have the biggest target on their backs. The Heat bolstered their roster with players who have championship pedigrees. The Nets, though mired in the Kyrie Irving saga, are still led by two MVP contenders.

It's going to be a tall order for the Bulls, but they certainly have the pieces to make noise in the conference.
