Michael Jordan along with Nike created one of the most lucrative brands across the entire sports industry.

There is no question the name Jordan literally prints money when it comes to sports and apparel. The Jordan Brand is one of the first and most successful individual athlete brand names in the history of sports.

Even decades after he retired, his signature sneaker is selling for more money than when he played in the NBA, and the retro version of his old shoes still fly off the shelves when they release.

The brand itself is sort of a premium, and unless you get lucky by some chance to catch them on sale, you'll be sure to pay premium prices to sport Air Jordan sneakers around.

There is one rare pair of Jordan's that costs more than all, and one collector got his hands on them recently.

Sunday a pair of customized original game-worn Air Jordan 1's were auctioned off in a Dallas Texas auction for $55,000 — the most anyone has ever paid for this style.

The Chicago Bulls star had worn this pair of shoes after returning from an injury in November of 1985. The one of a kind modified pair of sneakers were made with extra ankle support to help promote support for his healing foot.

According to the auction director Chris Ivy, there aren't many game-worn Air Jordan's in the wild, so the winner of this one got lucky.

“For a global audience of Jordan collectors, this is as good as it gets. Only a tiny handful of game-worn Jordan I’s are known to exist, and this unique pair is by far the rarest and most desirable of that breed, as our result would confirm.”

It may cost a premium to sort of be like Mike, but your chances are higher if you're willing to pay over 50 grand for it.
