The Chicago Bulls have found themselves dealing with an internal problem between forwards Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic that led to an altercation that caused the latter to suffer a concussion and require facial surgery.

Despite all of that, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that Mirotic has let the Bulls know that he wants to remain with the team moving forward.

“Throughout last season and a free agency that lasted all summer, Nikola Mirotic always maintained his desire to remain with the Bulls.

That same stance has again been communicated by Mirotic’s camp to management even after Bobby Portis’ punch broke two bones in Mirotic’s face and caused a concussion last week.”

Portis is currently serving an eight-game suspension for his actions and has already issued a public apology where he indicated that he reached out to Mirotic, but no response had been received. It has created a highly sensitive situation that has put the Bulls in a tight spot of determining what they should do with each player.

Mirotic has engrained himself as one of the primary contributors off the bench for the Bulls over his first three seasons, while Portis has yet to break through as hoped in his first two seasons in the league. However, the fact that Mirotic will need an extended period of time to recover from his injuries could work in the team's favor in helping the situation blow over and smooth things out.

There are clearly plenty of moving pieces involved in the situation that could lead to the team making some roster transactions.
