The Chicago Bulls made a lot of headlines ahead of their season opener more than two weeks ago, when reports surfaced about a fight during practice involving Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic. That caused the Spanish international to be rushed to the hospital due to a fracture on his face. Portis on the other hand, received an eight-game suspension from the team.

Still yet to make his debut this season, Nikola Mirotic received some news that will affect his availability to play. Team VP John Paxson revealed, according to Cody Westerlund of CBS, that he won’t be going under the knife to surgically repair his facial fractures, as the Bulls will allow it to heal naturally, and give him ample time to rest instead.

Last season, Mirotic was a fixture of the Bulls' rotation, and averaged solid numbers of 10.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 24.0 minutes per game. With the Bulls currently lacking plenty of firepower, they are definitely missing his presence on the floor, especially his outside shooting.

It's still unclear when he'll be able to play once again. Fractures, especially on the face usually take a long time to heal, and it's also possible that he may not suit up for the Bulls anymore after this unfortunate circumstance.
