Chicago Bulls forward Otto Porter Jr. wisely opted in to his player option for the 2020-21 season and made sure to collect the remaining $28.4 million on his massive four-year, $106 million deal with the Washington Wizards back in 2017.

With that much money left on the table, the 27-year-old Georgetown alum was expected to stay put and just test unrestricted free agency next year. Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes confirmed the inevitable update on Porter's status on Sunday, with free agency set to officially begin on November 20.

Following an impressive, but injury-riddled first-year campaign in the Windy City in 2018-19, Porter Jr.'s numbers regressed significantly last season. The injury bug once again bit him pretty hard, as he suited up in just 14 games due to a bothersome left foot injury. The 6-foot-8 forward could only muster 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steal in 23 minutes of action each night. His shooting numbers also took a dive, making just 44.3 percent of his field goals, 38.7 percent of his threes, and a worrisome 70.4 percent success rate from the foul line.

Although he was considered one of the most promising young, two-way players just a few seasons back, Porter's inability to stay healthy has put Chicago in a curious position. Porter's name has been linked to several potential deals for a Bulls squad looking for a fresh start under new management and new head coach Billy Donovan.

Otto Porter Jr. seems back to 100 percent now following that lengthy hiatus. When healthy, he is a versatile player who offers shooting, playmaking, and excellent perimeter defending. He is also capable of producing big scoring outbursts, evidenced by the time he put up a career-high  37 markers against the Memphis Grizzlies last February.

We've seen a lot of players from the past ball out during their contract year, and Porter will surely hope to follow the same path in 2020-21.
