A lot of people are surprised to see DeMar DeRozan playing at an MVP level with the Chicago Bulls, but not San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Having coached DeRozan for three seasons, Pop knows what the Bulls swingman is capable of. Obviously, everyone is seeing that now as he continues to lead the Bulls to the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Prior to the Spurs' Tuesday game against the Toronto Raptors, Popovich opened up about DeRozan's resurgence and why he is not one bit shocked about it:

“It doesn't surprise me one iota. As you well know, he's a great guy, great teammate. He does what he does and he does it really well, and he's brought that to Chicago,” the Spurs tactician shared, per Josh Lewenberg of The Sports Network.

DeMar DeRozan's signing with the Bulls in the offseason had been rated as one of the worst moves of free agency, with a lot of people questioning his fit with the team. However, they couldn't be more wrong with the 32-year-old scorer fitting in nicely and becoming a major contributor for the Bulls.

While some Spurs fans are probably thinking why DeRozan couldn't do with San Antonio what he's doing with the Bulls, a fresh start was clearly what he needed.

Gregg Popovich knows that DeRozan is an elite player, and pairing him with the likes of Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic and Lonzo Ball has allowed him to unleash his full potential.
