Chicago Bulls veteran small forward Thaddeus Young is a big fan of second-year center Wendell Carter Jr.

The Bulls are just 1-4 on the season, but Carter has been a bright spot.

Young says Carter “has that dog in him” and plays with an old-school mentality:

“He’s got a little shit to him,” Young told Michael Pina of SB Nation. “When you say, ‘somebody has a little shit to him,’ it’s not a bad thing. It’s actually a good thing. He has that dog in him. He has that mentality where he wants to be the aggressor. He wants to be the bruiser. That old-school mentality where he’s gonna be there and knock a guy out if he needs to.”

Through the Bulls' first five games, Carter is averaging 13.2 points and 9.0 rebounds. The 20-year-old is shooting 54.3 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Carter is part of a Bulls core that features shooting guard Zach LaVine, power forward Lauri Markkanen and rookie point guard Coby White.

The Bulls host the Detroit Pistons on Friday. Detroit will be without All-Star Blake Griffin and starting point guard Reggie Jackson, so Chicago has an opportunity to get its first home win of the season.
