Rookies come into the season with varying degrees of expectations. Fans, media, and coaches all seem to have an opinion of what to expect from first-year players. But we rarely think about what the players expect from themselves. Wendell Carter Jr.'s expectations for himself are simple. Give his best effort and try and help his team win.

“Really,” Wendell Carter Jr. said to Tzvi Twersky of Slam Magazine. “I just want to look at myself at the end and say I put my best foot forward and I did everything in my power to help my team win. That’s all I want to be able to do for all 82 games, including the playoffs.”

This is what Chicago fans want to hear from their most recent lottery pick. The Bulls are still in the midst of a rebuild, but the players still want to win games. You love to hear the confidence and swagger coming from Carter Jr. here.

The 19-year-old is averaging 6.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, but there's reason for Bulls fans to be excited. Carter is averaging 2.2 assists per game. Carter Jr. could develop into a gifted passer and give the Bulls the option of running the offense through him.

His 1.8 blocks per game are an added bonus as well. He could pair his playmaking style and rim protection with the sharpshooting Lauri Markkanen for years to come. But the future doesn't seem to be weighing heavy on Carter Jr. Right now, he's just looking to help his team win this year.
