Monday was not a good day for the Chicago Bulls as they succumbed to a 110-118 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks and also lost forward Wendell Carter Jr. to what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

The six-foot-nine Duke product had to be carted off the court and was put in a wheelchair going to the locker room after badly rolling his ankle on this play.

Wendell Carter, who played for 18 minutes and had six points and six boards at the time of the injury, spoke to Bulls Insider KC Johnson about the scary incident. He had to use crutches to go between the shower and the locker room after the game.

“I just try to make a play, try to get to the basket and I just felt my ankle just flop all the way over. It's all I can remember. It's a lot. Probably the worst pain I've ever endured playing basketball,” he said.

The Bulls dodged a bullet as X-rays on Carter's ankle came out negative, but he is still expected to be monitored closely considering how awkwardly he landed on the floor. Still, Wendell Carter remains optimistic that he can make it back in time for the Bulls' next game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

“It's just kind of a feel for myself. My goal is to comeback by Wednesday, but that's just the kind of person that I am. I just want to come back and try to help my team. The sooner the better for me,” Carter added.

After a strong rookie season, Wendell Carter is playing more minutes for coach Jim Boylen this year and has been the Bulls' primary anchor on the interior.  He's been notching averages of 11.7 points (53.7 percent FG and 21.4 percent 3PT) to go along with 9.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

The Bulls now need to plot their next moves, which will surely involve a lineup adjustment for the Pelicans game. Minutes will be redistributed at the very least, pending Carter's availability.
